Launching the MESO Challenge
Been training and prepping for the upcoming Pitt to DC Meso Challenge. This special solo event will raise awareness for mesothelioma research and the ban on asbestos. I will set out from Pittsburgh PA on August 25th and follow both the Allegany and C&O towpaths. This route will be well suited to my modified single-speed, fixed gear "saddle-less" touring bike. I plan to arrive in DC on or around August 30th, assuming no mechanical problems arise. I will be using a SPOT Satellite Messenger to track my progress and will post regular updates on Facebook. Check out our Meso Challenge page for more info. Stay tuned for more info. Please donate if you can. Peace-Frank - fac@standingcyclist.com

Support a StandingCyclist.com Friend
Hello All. Just found out an SC friend, Courtney Davis, is running a benefit race in Feb down in South Florida to raise awareness and funds for mesothelioma cancer research. It's called The Wishing Well Miles for Meso 5K. Courtney was a big part of our Lake Champ "standing" tour this past fall. She was the lead FOX44 photojournalist who assisted us in reaching so many thousands of people, in support of Stand Up To Cancer. This event is a very personal challenge for Courtney. Her own father suffers from this terrible disease. Please join us in supporting her efforts this winter. Click here to learn more. All The Best-Frank [fac@standingcyclist.com

Lake Champlain Solo "STANDING" Cyclist Tour '09 Was a Great Success
Hello All! Back from Burlington, VT with the Lake Champlain Solo "Standing" Cyclist Tour, for Stand Up To Cancer, behind me. Awesome experience. Met amazing individuals, business owners and media professionals. Everyone was more than willing to share their unique stories with me. It was very inspiring and kept me going through what ended up as 402 miles of saddle-less pedaling in 8 days of riding around the lake, in Vermont, Canada and New York. Thanks to FOX 44 and the Press Republican Newspaper, we successfully spread the word about Stand Up To Cancer and encouraged donations on behalf of this terrific group as well. Many thanks to old friends, family and new friends as well, for their interest and support throughout this exciting endeavor. Your encouragement went a long way. For my trip summary, photos, and route map go to http://www.standingcyclist.com/id37.html. Can't wait for the next big event... Peace-Frank Angelo Cavaluzzi

New Addition To The Family
For those of you gearheads out there, here's some news. Just picked up a new Salsa Fargo frameset from the guys out at Freeze Thaw Cycles in State College, PA. Salsa really did a great job designing this frame and fork. Many thanks to Justin and everyone else for all the info and their interest in StandingCyclist.com. Will be building this multipurpose 29er frame up in the coming weeks and will hopefully be training on it, standing, by May 1st. Looking forward to all the fun (and aching quads). Rumors
Rumor has it, I'll be riding a fixed gear, standing, later this season. The bike is 98% set up and I've begun my training. Fixed gear is new for me, sitting as well as standing. This is my first experience without the ability to coast. The standing up part gets tricky. Once in a while you zone out and forget you can't just stop pedaling. The bike will bite back...hard. I almost bucked off several times already and still can't quite get the hang of it. These 41 year old legs are holding up...so far, but I haven't yet put in any long training days. Will keep everyone posted. In the meantime, please check out our new SU2C Team. Join up and donate if you can. All the best, Frank A. Cavaluzzi, Standing Cyclist.
